Obituary for Arthur Henry Rye

Fairfax - Arthur Henry Rye, 72, passed away on August 15th, 2018 at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester, Vermont. He was born in South Burlington, Vermont on April 3, 1946. He was the son of the late Harold and Gwendolen (Perkins) Rye. Raised on the family farm on Hinesburg Road, South Burlington which has now become Oak Creek and Rye Meadows. He attended South Burlington schools and graduated from South Burlington High School class of 1964. His class created the “Rebel” name. He graduated VTC in 1966. He became employed by the US Forest Services in 1966 and retired in 2004. His title was Forestry Tech and he managed their greenhouse. His specialty was in Maple Sap Research and they started the use of tubing in syrup production. He traveled a great deal in teaching the use of tubing. He also grew many trees that are planted along Vermont road-ways. He participated as a Weigh Station Master in the firstLCI Father’s Day Fishing Derby on Lake Champlain. From then on he participated in the LCI as a contestant and never missed a derby. He also served on the Vermont Fish and Game Board from 1986-1991.

Arthur made sure that each of his four grandchildren had their permanent Vermont Fishing Licenses prior to their first birthday. He taught his grandchildren Archery, and to hunt and fish. He was always ready to teach a young person about the outdoors. He especially enjoyed teaching a young man by the name of Bill Slote how to hunt and fish.

Arthur is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Lexie (Bronson) Rye of Fairfax, Vermont, his son Clint Rye of Fairfax, Vermont, daughter Cassie Carter and her husband Dashaunt Carter of Bradenton, Florida, his sister Bernice Brisson and her husband Donald of Williston, Vermont, two brother-in-laws Kermit LaBounty and his wife Sandra of Randolph, Vermont, Randy Bronson and his wife Cindy of Waterbury, Vermont, his Aunt Barbara Larrow and her family, four grandchildren, Trinity and Madison Rye, and Bryson and Samara Carter, five nephews, Tony Brisson and wife Sue, Tim Brisson and wife Dawna, Mike Brisson and Deb, Matt LaBounty and his children, Erle and his wife Eliza and Danae, Jeff Bronson and wife Mekysha, his three nieces, Lorrie Churchill and husband Ray and their children Amy Farris and husband Mike, Brenda Flint and her husband Paul and Tina and their families, Jen and Mike Bourgeois and family, Kristen Bronson and husband Ralph Johnson, and all loving members of his Canadian In-law families and his special fishing and hunting buddies that meant a great deal to him.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, August 25th, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at A.W. Rich Funeral Home – Essex Chapel. A Celebration of Life and Reception will follow at the Barns at Lang Farm. Please dress casual. Internment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
