Obituary for Cheryl B. Hoffman (Bresett)

Cheryl B. Hoffman (St. Albans, Vermont), formerly of Waterbury Center, Vermont, slipped quietly from this life to join her beloved husband John, on March 7, 2018, following a lengthy period of declining health.

Cheryl, the eldest child of Willda “Duke” and Lelia (Carpenter) Bresett, was born January 11, 1943 in Barre, Vermont where she grew up surrounded by a large extended family.
Cheryl was a member of the first graduating class of Marian High School in Barre, graduating in 1960. Following graduation, Cheryl went to work for National Life Insurance Company in Montpelier.

In 1966 Cheryl was introduced to John Hoffman, the love of her life. They married on May 14, and settled down in Waterbury Center to raise their family. Once both children were in school, Cheryl returned to work at National Life, eventually training to be a programmer in their IT department, where she worked until her retirement in 2000.

John preceded Cheryl in death on May 17, 1996. Her heart never healed.

Cheryl’s memberships included the Waterbury Grange #237, the Waterbury Center Community Church, and the Emerald Lodge of the Rebekahs. Cheryl was known for her wonderful cooking and particularly enjoyed helping with community suppers. Cheryl was also involved with the Barre Players, helping with costuming on several shows.

Cheryl loved to travel; she even accompanied her daughter on two memorable trips to Morocco. She especially loved Bar Harbor, Maine where she spent numerous vacations with her husband, John. She and John also enjoyed bus tours, and travelled all over the Eastern United States.

Cheryl leaves her daughter, Kathleen Hoffman, with whom she shared a home in St. Albans, her son John and his wife Judy(Mannion) Hoffman of Keene, New Hampshire, her beautiful grandchildren Beatrice, Sola, and Aliyah Hoffman and Kai Jamil. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Willda “Butch” Bresett (Christina), Linda Bresett, Sue Ann Trucott, Leo “Joe” Bresett (Cindy), Peter Bresett (Vicky), David Bresett (Kim), Jennifer Bresett (Jerry), and Melissa Bresett (Mark), as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cousins.

Cheryl was predeceased by her husband John, her parents Duke and Lelia Bresett, and her in-laws, Elmer and Winona Hoffman.

Per Cheryl’s wishes, there will be no funeral or calling hours. Graveside memorial and burial will be on Saturday, May 26 at 11:00AM at the Maple Street Cemetery in Waterbury Center. There will be a picnic in the Hope Davey Memorial Pavilion in Waterbury Center immediately following the burial.
