Obituary for Sally Harlow Terry (Harlow)

Sally Harlow Terry, 87, of Shelburne, VT (formerly Cumberland, RI and Wasilla, AK) passed away peacefully at the Vermont Respite House on October 21, 2017,just 10 days after being diagnosed with cancer. She spent her final hours outside on a beautiful fall day, with her family by her side and a hawk circling overhead as she took her final breaths.

Sally was born on May, 11, 1930 in Taunton, MA to the late Marion (Macdonald) and Milton W. Harlow. She graduated from Colby Junior College and later earned her Bachelor's Degree from RI College and taught nursery school while raising her family. She loved teaching.

Sally is survived by her husband and life-partner of 67 years, James P. Terry, a son Scott Terry of Colchester, VT, a daughter Betsy Terry of Colchester, VT, a daughter Jody Cavanaugh and son-in-law Tony Mastrobattista of Lebanon, PA, and a granddaughter Hanna Orselet of Washington, D.C.

Sally enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, gardening, cooking, reading, watching the Red Sox, traveling and skiing, and was happiest when gathered with her family, friends and church community. She loved the outdoors and loved her 25 summers adventuring throughout Alaska with Jim, flying places in their Piper Cub, hiking, fishing and RVing. She always enjoyed telling that she caught the largest salmon of anyone in the family, just shy of 50 pounds.

She gave of herself generously, was well loved by all, and will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held on November 4, 2017 at 11 AM at Arnold Mills United Methodist Church, 690 Nate Whipple Highway, Cumberland, RI.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Cumberland Land Trust, PO Box 8011, Cumberland, RI 02864 or the McClure Miller Respite House, 3113 Roosevelt Highway, Colchester, VT, 05446.
