Obituary for Allen Everet Sargent Jr.

Allen E. Sargent, Jr.

St. Albans

Allen Everett Sargent Jr., 63, passed away at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans on Friday September 29, 2017. He was born in Burlington on May 20, 1954 son of Lorraine (Cross) Sargent and the late Allen Sargent, Sr.

Allen was a six month old miracle baby born lifeless weighing 2 pounds 7 ounces and had to be resuscitated and spent the next 3 months in the ICU in the incubator isolette and the air lock with short intervals. Two much oxygen has been known to cause blindness. He was brought home after 3 months at the Mary Fletcher Allen Hospital. Being that he was a premature baby it was determined that he would be a basic child. Side effects were deafness. After years of physical therapy, braces and all the equipment used to help him to walk, his first steps were at the age of 5. At age 10 he was enrolled at Austine School for the deaf after 8 years he graduated and then was enrolled for 2 years at Crochet Mountain New Hampshire Vocational School after 2 years he graduated from there. Shortly after graduation he moved into a group home on Upper Wellman Street in St. Albans. He was able to walk to Lemnah Drive where he was employed at Vermont Industries. Allen held other jobs through the years along with volunteer work, until he was hospitalized for surgery to repair a broken hand caused by a fall. When he was released from the hospital the wheel chair entered into his life.

He lived in his first apartment in Swanton with Jim Rice that gave him excellent personal care. Later on he moved to a new apartment in Richford. This is where Joanne Pinsonneault took over his personal care, the angel that his Heavenly Father found for Allen. No other person could have given him the care that she did which was excellent loving care up until his death.

Allen was an avid Red Sox and Dallas Cowboy fan. He loved sports, he was a gold medalist in bowling. He bowled with a ramp from his wheelchair, where his ball would roll down the alley. Bowling was his passion. He loved to go out to eat while visiting his mom for lunch. He was associated with NCSS, he went there for sign language and for music. He loved his music, he played the flute and other acoustic instruments.
