A Special Man

I knew Mr. Whitcomb as a customer at The Galaxy Bookshop, where I've worked for 16 years. Seeing him walk through the door always made my day. This tall man with wavy white hair and twinkling eyes would step in, spread his arms wide, and say "Helloooo!" with so much delight in his rumbling voice that he made me feel like it was a high point in his day to see me, too. I've no doubt that he made all his friends and acquaintances feel the same. I also loved to see him at Christmastime, when he would come in and spend an hour or more, choosing gifts for his family. It was wonderful to see the thought and care that he put into finding the right book for each of his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. When my husband and I were planning our wedding, we were so happy to have Mr. Whitcomb officiate as justice of the peace. His warmth and sense of humor endeared him to our family and friends, as well. I'm so grateful to have known Mr. Whitcomb and will miss him. My heart goes out to his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched.
