Obituary for 483 Vt Route 15

483 Vt Route 15
Clifford Leet Hill, Jr. 82 of Underhill passed away on May 13, 2017, surrounded by his loving family in his home of 52 years.

Cliff was born on March 17, 1935 in Burlington, VT, the son of the late Clifford and Aleda (Hinsdale) Hill. Cliff grew up on the family farm in Williston and graduated from Burlington High School in 1955. On August 29, 1959, he married Nancy Ann Miller in Alburgh, VT.

Cliff enlisted in the Vermont Air National Guard at the age of 17, joining the full-time workforce in 1957. He served for 34 years, working as a jet mechanic, crew chief, and flight line supervisor before eventually retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. A talented boxer, Cliff was the Vermont Golden Glove Light Heavyweight Champion of 1956. He was also very active in the community, serving as a leader in the Boy Scouts and 4-H, as well as selectman and member of the planning commission for the town of Underhill.

Cliff was particularly passionate about and dedicated to the Freemasons, where he served as the Master of the Mt. Mansfield Lodge four times during his 54 years of membership in addition to holding the positions of District Deputy Grand Master and Grand Representative to Australia and Tasmania. Cliff also belonged to the Scottish Rite, the York Rite, and the Shriners, and was an active member of the Green Mountain Chapter of the National Sojourners.

Cliff was extremely patriotic with a love for nature and the outdoors. An important aspect of Cliff’s life was his farm, where he devoted the majority of his time in his retirement years. He was dedicated to this work and passed his knowledge and work ethic onto his children and grandchildren. Cliff was a strong, loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, who took pride in and was incredibly supportive of his family. He was an exceptionally kind man with a lighthearted sense of humor, and he will be dearly missed.

Cliff is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy, and their four children: Deborah Ducharme and her husband, Darryl, of Williston; Susan Culbertson and her husband, Gary, of Richfield Springs, NY; Clifford Hill III of Burlington; and Robert Hill and his wife, Lisa, of Underhill; as well as his grandchildren Michael and wife Sarah, Katie, Jessica, Brianna, and Alissa, and step-grandchildren Anthony, Devin, and Amanda. Cliff is also survived by his sister, Velma Hill, of Las Cruces, NM, as well as his brother, Robert Hill, and wife Jeanette of Bristol. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Anita Hill Alexander and Joyce Hill Boomhower.

A Masonic service, open to the public, will take place on June 3, 2017 at 11 am at Mt. Mansfield Lodge #26, 65 Vermont Route 15, Jericho, VT. Please visit www.awrfh.com to express condolences online. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Cliff may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
