Obituary for Gerry Allen Tatro Sr.

Gerry Allen Tatro Sr., 67 of Johnson, passed away on Friday April 28, 2017 at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. He was born on March 23, 1950 in Jeffersonville, son of the late Gerald and Gertrude (Hooper) Tatro. Gerry loved to work in the construction business, he started as a teenager alongside his Dad at G. W. Tatro Construction. He took charge and shaped the foundations of snowmaking operations, serving as the point man of mountain projects for years—through the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. In many ways, the mountain branch of the company is as successful as it is because of the trail Gerry blazed in his years of service to the company.
He will be remembered as an amazing operator, who would take on the toughest projects without hesitation. He would fearlessly bring his team and equipment into areas where nobody else would go, tackling challenging jobs that many wouldn’t dare to attempt. In 2003, Gerry stepped away from the company, starting Tatro Trucking. Gerry really loved working with his brother Greg, who still runs G.W. Tatro today. His legacy is forever etched into the mountains of Vermont.

Gerry was curious by nature and excellent with numbers. He enjoyed watching the History Channel, listening to country music, playing cribbage, NASCAR, and fast cars. Above all things,he loved his dump truck and the time he spent driving it. His nephews, Brandon and Warren Sheldrick, will miss the ‘education’in construction that they often received from their uncle during family dinners. Gerry will be missed by all those who had the true pleasure to have known and loved him.

Gerry is survived by two sons Dan and his wife Mary, Gerry Allen Tatro, Jr. and Tracie, his daughter Christine Russ and husband Jon, a brother Greg Tatro and wife Dawn, a sister Gayle Tatro, seven grandchildren, the mother of his children and longtime friend Laura Miller Tatro, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was also predeceased by his sister Gerilyn “Teet” Tatro Piette.
