Obituary for Catherine Duval

Catherine Gladys Duval, 90, of Rutland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30th at the Rutland Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Catherine was born April 28th, 1926. She is predeceased by her husband, Louis J. Duval, mother, Catherine (Sawyer) Erickson, father, John William Erickson, brothers Elmer and John, sisters, Barbara (Martin), Eleanor (Parlin), and granddaughter Kayleen Marie Gilligan.
Catherine was introduced to Louie on her birthday, by her grandmother, Myrtle (Halliday) Sawyer. The couple had their first date that night, sitting on Grandmother's porch. They were married October 4th, 1942 in Great Falls, Montana where Louie was posted with the U.S. Army. They were married for over 70 years.
During the war, Catherine worked at the army base in Schenectady, keeping the time accounts for the workers. After the war, the couple returned to Rutland, where they owned the Marble City Bakery for many years. The couple raised six children; Darcy (Robert) Picucci, David (Stephanie) Duval, Kathy (Robert) Romagnino, Peggy (Joseph) Linnenbach, Laurie (Ted) Gilligan and Kelley (Ron) Mecier.
Catherine is also survived by sister, Marguerite Comstock, who resides in Rutland, eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Known to her friends as "Kaye", she was fond of bowling. She was a member of American Legion Post 31 Ladies Auxiliary.
Services for Mrs. Duval will be held later this summer, when her ashes will be interred with her late husband. Our family invites anyone to share their memories on this website, which will remain online: www.awrfh.com
