Obituary for
Garrick Tyler Carter
On December 2nd, 2016 Tyler Carter’s battle with a long disease of addiction ended. His attempts to overcome this struggle were great and we are incredibly saddened by this senseless disease and loss of a special young man.
Tyler was born on May 31st, 1990 in Manassas, Virginia. He was fortunate to be raised by good people who helped shape his sense of humor and impart values while also instilling a sense of love and care for all living things.
Tyler was blessed with kindness, gentleness and a tender heart for everyone he came into contact with. He was an incredible son, a kind friend and a compassionate and loving brother and grandson. Among his family members are his parents, Kim and Clint Pratt, his brother Zach Pratt, a very special grandmother with whom he shared a close bond, Linda Godin. Grandparents include Gary Godin, Barbara and Don Robyor and Great Grandmother Jean Thompson. A special Aunt and Uncle Kelly and Brian Turman, as well as a Cousin Madison Turman. Uncles and aunts include, Dan and Roxanne Pratt as well as Mary Pratt. Many other extended family members live in Vermont and Toronto. Tyler was predeceased by a Great Grandfather John Thompson and Great Grandparents Marcel and Lucille Godin.
His spirit has connections to two wonderfully faithful friends, Pat and Beth. They both have shared in his joy and sorrow for some time. Their commitment to him was great and the shared love will continue on.
As a teenager Tyler tried incredibly hard to find his way in life, to become a good citizen, and a young man of value with hopes and dreams like any other. However, this harrowing disease had a huge hold over him. There were periods of his life that he put in tremendous amounts of energy to get ahead of this horrific disease, to defeat and beat the odds, and be free of its’ imprisonment. His honesty with the problem and realization of the vastness of it moved him to seek treatment many times, and each time his attempts are an example of his bravery and desire to reach his goals in life. The love and prayers of his family and close friends were constant and steadfast.
Tyler came to all of us for a reason, he taught us many important things about this life, he loved us deeply and wanted to make his family proud. That he did, he made his family proud to have loved such a gentle soul. May God hold him now and allow him to continue to bless us with his spirit.
We will hold dear to our hearts his love, intelligence, humor and incredible spirit while sharing his story with others. We were blessed to have had the time with Tyler and sadly this disease affects all kinds of individuals and all kinds of families, it holds no prejudice. Through understanding and forgiveness we all can support others who are fighting this similar battle.
A wake and celebration of his life will occur on Saturday, December 10th from 11:00 am to 3:00pm. At 11:30 am prayer, readings and a memory share will take place. All are welcome to join family and friends at 11:30 am to share a memory. Otherwise, visiting will continue from 12:00 to 3:00 pm.
The celebration of Tyler’s life will be hosted by his Aunt and Uncle, Kelly and Brian Turman at 15 Taft Street, Essex Junction, VT. The family also invites you to share your memories and condolences by visiting www.awrfh.com.
