Marjorie Elizabeth White (Dalgleish)
Marjorie Elizabeth (Dalgleish) White, 89, of Williston, died suddenly Tuesday August 23, 2016. Born June 21, 1927 the eldest daughter of Robert and Muriel (Brightmore) Dalgleish in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Near the end of World War II, she met the love her life, Leslie White. On August 4, 1948, she set sail for the United States where, in the tiny village of Barnet, VT, they were married on September 4, 1948. They enjoyed a wonderful life together for nearly 68 years.
For many years Marjorie was a stay at home mother. When the children were established in school, she was employed briefly at W. T. Grants in Newport, VT and then for many years she worked at the Chittenden Trust Company (now Peoples Bank) in Montpelier, VT until she retired.
She was a fabulous and award winning knitter who helped all with their knitting dilemmas. During the war, she knit socks and hats for the soldiers, and a heavy water proof sweater for her beloved brother who was serving in the British navy.
She is survived by her three children: Mary E. Manzi of Williston, Elizabeth Warren of Goffstown, NH and James White and his wife Carol of Richmond. VT. Also, her four grandsons: Major Cornelius (Tad) Granai IV and his wife Lindsey of El Paso Texas, Robert Granai of N. Kingston, RI, Nicholas Warren and his wife Shannon of Manchester, NH, and Brian Shelden of Chicago, IL. Plus her six great grandchildren: Hannah, Lilah, Ava, Tyler and Ella Granai and Garrett Warren. She also leaves five nieces and nephews in Australia and one cousin in England.
She was predeceased by her husband by only 44 days, her parents, her two sisters, Winnie and Molly in Australia and her brother Jim also in Australia, plus her beloved nephew Stephen in Australia.
There will no calling hours. A graveside memorial service for Leslie and Marjorie will be held on Monday August 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph.
