Walter John Miranowicz Jr.
Burlington – Walter John Miranowicz, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at the age of 73.
Walter was born on October 19, 1942 in Lawrence, Massachusetts to the late Walter J. and Dorothy (Baker) Miranowicz.
His early education was in Massachusetts where he graduated from St. Rita’s Grammar School (1956) and Central Catholic High School (1960) in Lawrence. He also graduated from Northern Essex Community College (1963) in Haverhill and Merrimack College (1965) in North Andover.
He worked for King’s Department Stores, Inc. in Methuen and Tewksbury before he began his career with the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, Social Security Administration in Boston, Massachusetts in February 1966 and ended in Burlington, Vermont in January 2006. He served as Claims Representative in offices in Presque Isle, Maine and Montpelier, Vermont; and Operations Supervisor in Roxbury, Massachusetts and Burlington, Vermont. He was serving as a Management Support Specialist at the time of his retirement.
He was a parishioner of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, a senior alter server and on the parish Finance Council. He was a Third Degree Knight of Columbus, an Honorary Member of DeGoesbriand Council 279, a Secular Franciscan, a Life Member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 916 Burlington, and a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association.
Walter is survived by the love of his life, wife Carol A. (Vignault); daughter Lisa Viau, and her husband Robert of Waltham, VT; daughter Diana of Savannah, GA; and son, David and his husband, David Nicholas of Ipswich, MA; brother John and wife, Diane, of Salem, NH; cousin Tom Baker and wife Margaret, brother-in-law Walter Vignault, his partner, Sandy Baxter; sister-in-law Jane Vignault; sister-in-law Joan Harris; and sister-in-law Sandra Burke and her husband, William; several nieces and nephews and their families; and his companion since he retired, his faithful dog, Torie.
Walter’s family wishes to thank Dr. Christopher Hebert, Dr. Scott Perrapato, Dr. Steven Ades, Janet Ely and their staffs for making Walter’s last years most comfortable, along with the nurses and staff at Bayada Hospice, in particular Penny Martha, and Kelly. Thank you all for your wonderful care!
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 24 at 10:00 AM at St. Mark’s Church in Burlington, VT followed by inurnment in the columbarium at Resurrection Park in South Burlington, VT.
