Sylvia Hyde (Schmokel) Trevor, 55, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2014 at the Vermont Respite House after struggling courageously with cancer.
Sylvia was born on January 8, 1959 in New Haven, Connecticut to Wolfe and Varian Schmokel. Her family moved up to Essex, VT when she was young and she spent her childhood there. Eventually, Sylvia married and returned to Vermont to raise her children. Sylvia did not remain married, but ended up settling in Stowe, Vermont where she lived the past 20 years.
Sylvia always sought out ways to express her creative energies. She was a talented painter and enjoyed playing piano as well as singing in the Stowe Community Church. She was also deeply spiritual and a member of the Circle of Friends in Lamoille County.
Sylvia was an avid traveler. She took many trips to Europe, particularly Germany, France and Italy. She had incredible talent with languages and enjoyed practicing her German, French and Italian skills while abroad.
