Gladys May Jarvis, 84 passed away at Northwestern Medical Center on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 after a long illness with family at her side. She was born in Wallingford, VT on December 1, 1929 the daughter of the late Earl and Nellie (Roberts) Fish. She graduated from Wallingford High School and got her teaching degree from Castleton State College and UVM. Gladys taught her first year in Isle La Motte where she met her husband James. She flew to Arkansas and was married on September 15, 1951 before he left for the Korean War. They resided in South Burlington for 48 years where she worked as a cook for several large companies. They spent most of their summers at their camp in Isle La Motte swimming and fishing and enjoying family gatherings. Mom was the best at taking care of and loving her family.
She is survived by her husband James, son Tim Jarvis of Shelburne and daughter Jamie Grenier and husband Peter of Underhill; granddaughters Ariel Jarvis and Stephanie Farrell and grandsons Christopher and Jason Grenier and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother Earl Fish, Jr.
The family would like to thank the Holiday House for their many years of wonderful care and St. Albans Health and Rehab for the hugs and caring they showed mom in the last few months and to the Northwestern ICU staff for her wonderful care and family support in her last few days.
There will be no visiting hours or services held at this time per her request. A graveside committal service with burial will be held in the Spring in the family lot in Ft. Ethan Allen Cemetery, Colchester with a time and date to be announced. Memorial contributions in Gladys' memory may be made to the Humane Society of Chittenden County, 142 Kindness Court, South Burlington, VT 05403. Arrangements are by John D.
