Mr. Gary Lee Johnson passed away on 9/11/12 at the age of 68. He was born in St. Albans on 4/11/44 to Chauncey and Bertha (Clapper) Johnson.
After high school Gary enlisted in the US Army where he served in both Korea and Vietnam as a medical specialist. While serving his country Gary was awarded the National Defense service medal, The Vietnam Service medal, 3 overseas bars, 2 good conduct medals, 2 bronze stars, and 2 Purple Heart medals.
Gary was an Avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed many sports including watching NASCAR or rooting for his favorite teams the Red sox’s, Celtics, Pats, and Giants.
Gary is survived by his daughter Angela (Rick) Gowing and her sons Michael, Christopher, Shane Bertrand, and RJ Larose. His daughter April (Raymond) St. Francis and her sons Wade, Ryan, and Cole St. Francis
He is also survived by his brother Ronald (Joanne) Johnson of Sheldon, his twin brother Larry (Rita) Johnson of Charleston, his brother Michael (Therese) Johnson of Georgia, as well as 8 nephews, 1 niece and 2 great grandchildren.
Gary was known as Grandpa to many if not by blood it was definitely by love. He will deeply miss his Alexis.
Gary was predeceased by his partner of over 35 years Wanda Lee Ploof on 2/05/12. By his father Chauncey Johnson on 9/30/92 and by his mother Bertha Johnson on 5/17/2006. He was also preceded in death by his nephew Jeremy Johnson on 10/24/92 and by his great grandson Austin Ploof on 10/7/08
A graveside service with inurnment with Pastor Bruce Patterson offering prayers will be held on Thursday September 20th at 11:00 Am in the family lot in Sheldon Woods Cemetery in Sheldon Springs.
