Message: For many years, the Ethan Allen was my go-to place when I needed to stay in Burlington for work. Dave was a remarkable person. I often thought that he was the quintessential inn keeper: someone who knew the area, knew his guests, and was always welcoming, practical and steady. His knowledge of Vermont was encyclopedic. He was also knowledgeable about nearby Canada and went out of his way to make his Canadian guests feel welcome. He was full of stories about Vermont, and seemed to know everyone in the State. The muscular dystrophy progressed over the years; he handled its challenges with dignity and grace. I am sorry to hear of his passing. He made such a contribution to this area as its Innkeeper in Chief. He will be missed.
